When she bought her Makeover, Mia wasn't entirely sure what direction to take for her family's den / media room - she just knew that she needed affordable decorating help! Mia's goal was a functional, comfortable space that was kid-friendly but still sophisticated and ideally incorporated the gray velvet couch and navy patterned rug that she already owned. And she wanted it to feel like her husband’s space too, since his office was connected. Mia wasn't sure whether she wanted to invest in re-doing the entire room all at once, and liked that Decorist gave her an affordable, customized e-design room plan and shopping list that she could execute over time as she was ready.
Decorist designer Claire decided to go masculine - recommending rich navy, gray and black and mixing metals and materials like wood, brass and chrome. Knowing that Mia didn't want to spend a lot on pillows ("I'm always changing them up so I like to buy chic but inexpensive throw pillows") she hunted down a few patterned, graphic pillows including a modern black and white houndstooth (from Ikea – it was under $10!) and a navy and black “X” pillow from the Nate Berkus for Target collection. The drapes are a favorite find – they’re a gorgeous navy velvet from West Elm. They look more expensive than they are, and both warm up the room and pull it together. And then there’s the Dot and Bo Celestial Galaxy Pendant – a statement-making piece with a with wonderfully smoky, masculine vibe. It's a show stopper, isn't it?
For extra seating, Claire added the modern shell chair from ATG Stores. It’s super comfortable and sleek as well as budget friendly. Her splurge was the Vaughan Martin handmade ottomans - which she discovered on Etsy - featuring London subway signs which she knew the family would love as they love to travel.
