Step Inside Sherri McMullen's Stylish Oakland High Rise
A leader in fashion and owner of McMullen, a high-end women's boutique located in Oakland, California, Sherri McMullen has an infectious energy and confidence that is all her own. With one of the top boutiques in the country according to Women's Wear Daily, Sherri recently shared her fashion picks for the season with Vogue and the Zoe Report featured her top Mother's Day finds.
Her eye for style was a natural fit for Atlanta-based Decorist Celebrity Designers Forbes + Masters, the interior design duo that gave Sherri's downtown Oakland high rise a cool new look. Using furnishings from Bed Bath & Beyond and a graphic wallpaper from their collab with Mitchell Black, Forbes + Masters created a comfortable, eclectic design that perfectly suits Sherri's personality and lifestyle.

The Living Room
The open living and dining space were inspired by neutral colors and shapes, playing around with proportions and various styles to add interest without the use of bold color. As a fashion icon, Forbes + Masters wanted Sherri's clothes to be the star of her home and for the interior design to serve as a backdrop to her incredible looks. And those drop-dead views from the floor-to-ceiling windows? The perfect accessory.
By mixing styles with everything from Mid-Century to Contemporary to Traditional, the open concept living room and dining area have a curated feel, as those the pieces were collected over time. One of the design requirements was to create a space that feels elevated enough for Sherri, but still cozy and fun for her five year-old son. Style and comfort was paramount in putting together the final look.
This design is 1920’s meets 1970’s style exuding a halston-esque vibe that is both sexy and sophisticated. An off-white faux shearling chair catches the eye with its super stylish design yet the perfect spot to snuggle and lounge. A white leather safari chair adds another textural element and interest to the space. The coffee table has almost a tortoise shell appearance and provides the perfect counterbalance to the marble top brass nesting side table that adds light, function and durability to the room.
While all the modern, timeless furnishings are from Bed Bath & Beyond, Forbes + Masters also sourced some beautiful accessories and objets from the McMullen boutique such as the Estelle stemware and smoke-colored decanter to help tie the space together. They also tapped artist Candice Luter to design the stunning fringed mirrors above the two-tier brass bar cart.
The plush brown velvet sofa with its curved sides is not only comfortable but helps to set the tone and inevitably makes a fashionable statement in the room. The burnt orange soft resin vase adds a playful touch to the dining table.
The graphic wallpaper is from the designer's collaboration with Mitchell Black and the neutral palette and design mix allow for a range of styles. Paintzen sponsored the installation of the wallpaper.
The Kitchen Island and Dining Nook
Sleek and sophisticated the marble and copper dining room table stands out and pairs nicely with the more classic cane dining chairs. The velvet and brass accent on the barstool brings additional luxe to the dining area and the alabaster pendants help create a beautiful glow in the space.
