7 Gorgeous Wall Paint Ideas That Will Transform Your Home
Looking for new paint ideas? The Decorist online interior designers get a lot of questions about paint. It's such a quick, easy and affordable way to update your space! Everyone wants to know our favorite interior paint colors, what's trending (gloss paint? flat? bold colors?), how to paint a room, or simply the best wall paint color to update a particular space.
Whether you've recently moved into a new home, are trying to tie a room together, or are looking to refresh an existing space, choosing the right paint can be daunting given the overwhelming number of color choices, finishes and brands.
So, we turned to 7 highly talented Decorist Elite Designers who have a ton of experience recommending fabulous paint to their clients. We asked them to share some of their favorite paint ideas and brands. Here's what they said:
"At MAS Design we're up obsessed with white paint! A good white paint allows your architecture, furniture and art to be the star of the show. But not just any white! As we all know, a bad white can be a real downer."
"We vacillate between Benjamin Moore Classic Grey (as in this dining room) and Sherwin Williams Incredible White. Both whites have grey undertones, so lighting changes can make the color appear grey in some rooms, and brighter white in others, while keeping a cohesive look. Also, both whites are sumptuous and have a lot of depth.""To maximize architectural details, as is done here for the coffered ceiling, use matte or flat paint on the walls and ceiling, and a 50% semi-gloss to play up the gorgeous moldings."Ask MAS Design a question.
"Charcoal from Restoration Hardware is one of my all time favorite colors," says Gracie Turner. "The color is part of their Flint Paint Collection and is truly fantastic because it provides a great neutral background and base, yet allows fabrics, furnishings and colors pop. It's both current and timeless, and allows you to easily change up your furniture and accessories without having to repaint the whole room."Get a personalized decorating tip from Gracie Turner.
"If you're not afraid of color, try Benjamin Moore's Newberg Green," says Katy Byrne. "The color name is deceiving as it makes for a bold blue wall with some slight greenish undertones. Paint is the easiest way to make a bold impact with a space. Don't be afraid to try a bold color as it tends to make a space feel warm and inviting."Have a decorating question? Ask Gracie Turner.
Caitlin Jones Ghajar
"I’m absolutely loving the move towards kitchens that use gray and taupe tones," says Caitlin Jones Ghajar of Wright, Stewart, Jones. "Pratt and Lambert's Half-tone (29-25) in a satin finish was a perfect choice for this kitchen, where we wanted more depth against the calacutta counters and white walls, but the softness of a soothing gray. It's a trending and refreshing change from the all-white kitchen!"Caitlin Jones Ghajar is ready to answer your decorating question.
"Edgecomb Gray by Benjamin Moore is one of my all time favorite paint colors!" says Jill Kalman. "It's a neutral grey that works so well in virtually any setting. It has a rich, warm, organic feel and again works with so many different palettes. I recently used this color on a client's bookcases and it turned out beautifully!"Need decorating help? For Joni Lay, "Lido Green by Benjamin Moore is a favorite for kids' spaces. Not only is it light and bright, but it's neutral as well, working equally well for either a girl or a boy. Fresh wall paint is the easiest way to liven up a space, and it's also an instant mood lifter. As a mom of little ones, who spends a good bit of time at home, I think it's so important to create bright spaces that are inviting and make you feel happy."Ask Joni Lay your decorating questions.
"If you're looking for a playful sophisticated color, look no further than Charlotte's Locks by Farrow & Ball," says Ally Gwozdz of Curate Interiors. "It will be a bold statement for a space that you won't take too seriously. It worked perfectly in this Queen Anne Victorian home as it's playful and energizing in the family library. I used a gloss finish on the bookcases. The room is clearly a showstopper!"Ally Gwozdz can help you with your decorating questions.
