Pasta Salad with Peas & Parmesan
By Alison Roman
Cook pasta in a large pot of salted, boiling water until al dente, or perhaps slightly past al dente, since this is the only time you’re cooking the pasta (i.e. it doesn’t go back into a skillet or anything). Drain, rinse with cool water and set aside.
Meanwhile, combine lemon zest and juice, garlic, scallions, and ? cup olive oil in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper and add pasta (it’s okay if it’s still warm as long as it’s drained well), toss well to evenly coat all the pasta.
Add snap peas, peas, parmesan, herbs and pea shoots (or more herbs) and toss to combine. Add more salt, lemon juice, black pepper or olive oil as needed (you may need more of all!).
Five Easy Outdoor Entertaining Tips
Go Au Naturel
Rattan, teak, bamboo and other organic materials are all the rage in backyard patio design right now. There’s no way to miss the mark with any natural materials. Lots of texture gives off a relaxed vibe that can read boho, modern or even traditional depending on the style.
Add a Statement Rug
Anchor the entertaining area of your patio with a indoor/outdoor area rug. A rug will help bring that indoor feel outside while creating a more stylish and cozy look to your space. We are especially partial to those patterned outdoor rugs that can also be used inside in high traffic areas such a kitchen or playroom.
Light It Up
Lighting is essential to setting the mood for those late summer dinner parties and family gathering. There’s something inviting about stringing lights around the patio or simply hanging a few oversized pendants above a dining table or outdoor sofa. We’re seeing more and more outdoor styles that could easily pass for indoor lighting. Whether you gravitate to clean lines or a casual boho look, we’re loving all the affordable varieties in outdoor lighting today.
Stress- Free Dinnerware
Don’t get overly fussy with dinnerware — an eclectic mix feels more laid-back and curated anyway. Try melamine dishes in different patterns and colorful hues as a fun way to dress up your outdoor table. They’re easy, lightweight, durable and great for entertaining adults and kids alike.
Leverage your outdoor garden with lots of potted plants. Finding the right variety, height and texture can really elevate your overall look of your patio. Also, add decorative planters to introduce color or to keep it neutral with terracotta or white. Remember you can do one large planter or cluster in groups of three and playing with contrasting shapes is always encouraged.
