National Kitchen and Bath Month
Celebrate National Kitchen and Bath Month
October is a month where there is a lot going on – school is back in full swing, autumn is in the air and a lot of people are already starting to think about the holidays that are now only a couple of months away. On top of all of that, it’s also a month to celebrate design, as October is National Kitchen and Bath Month. That’s right – a month to celebrate two of the most important rooms in the house and two rooms in which we spend a lot of time. If you've been considering a kitchen or bathroom makeover, below you’ll find some basic ideas about when it may be time to take on a project.
Kitchen Design – Take Stock of Your Workflow
If it’s been a few years since you did any sort of kitchen design, you may want to think about your workflow in that room. For instance, do you regularly find yourself darting back and forth across the kitchen to use appliances or to grab utensils you need while cooking? If so, you may need to consider a new layout. That will only increase your efficiency and of course your overall enjoyment of the kitchen. You’ll also get more time to relax and enjoy any company that may be joining you in the kitchen while you prepare a meal.
Bathroom Design – Could You Use More?
Traditionally, bathrooms were extremely simple – a sink, a toilet, a tub and perhaps a shower and not much if anything else. Bathroom design has exploded in popularity in recent years because people are realizing that a lot can be done in here. Do you find yourself regularly saying, “I wish I had a _____ in here?” If so, think of ways to add that item. Nowadays, you’ll see furniture, plant life, entertainment outlets and many other things in this room.
Kitchen Design – Does It Still All Fit Together?
Few rooms in the home accumulate more “stuff” than the kitchen – new appliances, new utensils, new dishes, etc. Over a period of several years, all of these things tend to look crammed into one space. Do you find that your initial kitchen design concept has been somewhat lost because of all of this accumulation? If so, you may want to consider making a design change so that everything looks like it fits in your kitchen again.
Bathroom Design – Are Your Needs Changing?
As we get older, we tend to find that we want different things. When we have young children, there is no time for a bath on most days, as a quick shower is all that you can find time for. Perhaps your children are older now and you do have time for a bath from time to time. If so, maybe it’s time to incorporate a bathtub into your bathroom design.
