Designing A Luxurious Bedroom
The Luxurious Bedroom
We spend more time in our bedrooms than in any other room in the house. When we look at homes or apartments, the first thing we want to know is how many bedrooms are included on the property, and that’s no accident. That’s because we know we will spend several hours there every night. As such, when we take on a bedroom decorating project, a common goal for many of our customers is to make it feel luxurious - all it takes are a few thoughtful design touches and any bedroom can feel luxurious.
Many customers don't initially consider lighting beyond the ceiling light already on the ceiling. In fact, one of the first things our designers do when designing a bedroom is to consider how to bring in layers of light - different light sources with different types of light for all the different functions in the bedroom. A light to get ready and put make-up on is different than a light for bedside reading. In layering lighting, your designer will consider ceiling lights, floor lamps, tabletop lighting and candlelight.
A Sitting Area
One of the most overlooked bedroom amenities is a sitting area. By default, the bed becomes seating in the bedroom, whether it's for getting ready, reading before bed, packing and more. If you have the space to include a separate seating area, you can preserve your bed for what it’s made for – sleeping. This makes a big difference in how the bedroom feels. A sitting area also allows one person to continue staying up and the other person to sleep undisturbed.
There’s really nothing like cuddling up in front of a warm, cozy fire. The trouble with that idea is that in most homes, the fireplace is in the living room or some other common room. Bedroom amenities can certainly include a fireplace, and bedroom decorating that includes such a feature will allow you to enjoy the warmth of the hearth without having to get up and move into a different room. There are many options to bring a fireplace into your bedroom, and your designer can help you find options within your budget.
Most bedrooms don't have art as part of the design and this is a big missed opportunity. Art is a way to set the tone, set the look of the room. A luxurious bedroom wouldn't look finished without art as part of the design. Art doesn't have to be expensive or overwhelming - art that is included as part of the design can be smaller and intimate in scale and details.
