Design Hustlin' at Hustle Con
Our team got an early start this morning, design hustlin’ at Hustle Con 2015. Haven’t heard of it? Hustle Con is a conference here in San Francisco where the best non-technical startup founders (aka “hustlers”) share how they got started and give practical advice on growing a startup.
Here’s how Decorist got involved: We were introduced to Hustle Con co-founder Sam Parr by a friend. Sam's great at designing must-attend conferences, less great at designing spaces (in fact, his exact phrasing was “we suck at it”). His challenge to us: create a stage lounge that’s “as badass as our conference.” TED talk meets industrial+rock 'n roll was his vision, so off went Ashley, Decorist’s Head of Design Services. Online interior design meets HustleCon? Bring it on we said.
Here’s where Ashley landed: a simple, modern industrial seating area worthy of center stage. We built our design around a statement-making, hide and chrome bench honoring San Francisco neighborhoods, designed by local maker and entrepreneur Desanne Martin (a London version made its debut in our Decorist Design Showhouse last year). For chairs, we chose an affordable take on the iconic Wegner Shell chair from ATG Stores. The handmade blue and ivory contemporary rug is from Overstock.
The industrial bookcase is an absolute favorite find from World Market. We love the distinctive shape – how often do you see a round bookcase? – and the stylish combination of metal and wood.
Stylin’ the bookcase was MEGA fun (get it?). We combined a few of our favorite accessories with a few of Sam’s favorites, to make it personal. A guy who has his own book club (with it’s own blog!) needs a special place to store his books. We presented all of these ideas to Sam through our online interior design platform, and he was sold.
Design hustlin’ (and helping our friends “not suck”) has never been so fun!
