Behind The Design: A Living & Dining Room For Entertaining

POSTED BY DECORIST EDITORIAL TEAM
OCTOBER 25, 2016

The Project: An open living and dining space in a new home

The Designer: Becky Leu, Classic Designer

The Client: A new homeowner wanting to go from shabby-chic to modern

Budget: $5,500

"I would never have thought of putting the couches or the table where you did, but looking at them now, I love the idea!"

Client's requests:

  • Divide up this space into a living room space and a dining room space, keeping the open feel without making the space feel chopped up
  • Add plenty of seating for dinner parties and entertaining
  • I love gray and white but need to add in some color
  • My last apartment was shabby chic but I really want something more modern with this new home

Becky's Design Diary

  • This layout of the sofas and dining table maximizes the use of the space and keeps the flow open, which is great for entertaining
  • I brought in the grays and whites that you love but also added in pops of color and graphic elements, which lend visual interest and are easy to swap out when you want to refresh the look of the room next
  • I mixed in industrial elements and tribal motifs with the modern items to prevent the space from looking too stark or cold, which is common with only modern items
