A Teen Bedroom Gets An Entirely New Look Without Changing the Furniture
This recent teen bedroom makeover is an absolute favorite because it so perfectly illustrates how you can change the look of a room completely (and affordably!) by just changing up the accessories. Not a single piece of furniture was replaced in this makeover, and yet the room feels entirely different: more contemporary, more pulled together, more teen (minus the One Direction posters).
Here's what the mom, andra, shared with us about about her goals for her daughter's space: "All of the big pieces are in but I am looking for help with accessories. We've shifted the palette to bright turquoise and cream, and I want to bring in some bright pink and purple."
Can you spot the changes? Decorist designer Lauren incorporated a handful of accessories that feel both youthful and sophisticated. How fab are the Oliver Gal lip and heart prints, scouted on One Kings Lane. The perfect hint of metallic glam. Note: the prints go in and out of stock on OKL -- if you love them, buy now! And if you miss out, don't fret as they'll likely be back.
Lauren also swapped out the bedding. We love the crisp white duvet with pink borders from Serena and Lily. It's clean and classic and a great foil for the vibrant throw pillows. And for the pillows on the white settee, Lauren turned to one of her favorite sources for affordable throw pillows, Etsy, for a cream and metallic screen-printed pillow honoring the teen's home town, San Francisco.
Perhaps our favorite addition to the room is the lavender hand-carved, Mughal inspired inlay mirror that hangs above the parsons desk. It's exotic and feminine all at once.
PS: If you're curious about "Stay Golden", we looked it up. It means stay, and true to yourself. Who wouldn't wish that for their teenager??
