Get This Presidential Look
Even though we're always thinking about fabulous interior design, we can't help getting pulled into this year's presidential election. So in light of the President's speech last night, we asked one of our very own talented Decorist designers, Ellice Condon, to help us get that presidential look.
Ellice is a master at mixing chic and stylish designs with functionality. She is not afraid to combine traditional furniture and family heirlooms with more contemporary finds in order to give a space a distinct look while weaving in high and low pieces in an effortless and unexpected way.
Today, Ellice is taking over our blog and sharing her picks to help you get the look of the Obama's new home.
How can you possibly top living in The White House? Well, you start by moving into a gorgeous, 1920’s Tudor that has undergone a meticulous renovation. Located in the Kalorama, a residential neighborhood in Washington, D.C., the Obama's new house is stunning and boasts 9 bedrooms, gracious public spaces, restored original leaded windows, two tiers of flagstone terraces and formal gardens, and parking for 10 of your closest friends.

Luxury Doesn’t Have to Cost a Fortune
Mixing high and low end pieces gets you the designer look on YOUR budget. Choose natural fabrics like velvet, linen and seagrass to add warmth and richness to your space. Add in some faux (or real!) plants, touches of shine with glass or polished metal, and paint the walls in a warm, neutral gray-brown tone.
Keep the Color Scheme Consistent
Choosing a color scheme and sticking to it will create a more cohesive, well thought out design. The living room in the Obama’s new home has a restful, welcoming pallette of grays, taupes, whites and washed out blues. This color scheme sets the tone for this room to be a gathering place for family & friends for relaxing conversation.
Keep Things Balanced
A pair of chairs or a pair of shelves; creating symmetry and balance immediately makes the room feel finished.
Don’t fall into the trap of buying everything in one place! Shop around and collect pieces that make you happy. Stick to your color scheme and you will begin to see how easily you can curate your very own designer inspired room.
Now are YOU ready to go shopping?
