7 Home Decor Trends That Will Be Big This Spring

POSTED BY SUSAN GLEN
MARCH 22, 2018

It's official—spring has finally sprung! And while it might be cold and even snowy in some parts of the country, we're starting to see those glimmering signs of hope from Mother Nature. Longer days, warmer temperatures, little green buds forming on the trees. And while it might be time to start thinking about transitioning your wardrobe, the change of season also offers the perfect excuse to update your home with lighter colors, different textures and brighter materials.

To help make your transition into the new season easy, we tapped Decorist Design Director Jessica McCarthy to share her knowledge on spring 2018's hottest décor trends. Judging from her trend forecast, this season is all about pastel colors, geometric shapes and organic details—a sophisticate atmosphere where comfort is key. Read on for the essentials to create a cozy yet bold spring interior and how to transition your home for the new season.

The once institutionalized and budget friendly material was a way to update surfaces in the 1970’s, but now it is looked at as a much more luxurious and specialized material making a huge comeback this spring. We're seeing the nostalgic material used in more ways than ever before, on countertops, backsplashes, stairwells and floors.

Handmade ceramics

Supporting local artisans and having pieces in your home that feel one-of-a-kind and original has become a staple trend this spring. Retailers are even mass producing pottery and ceramic dinnerware to create the feel of something handmade. This is a must have for the all those open kitchen shelves out there.

Art Deco influenced shapes

What goes around comes around, and we are seeing this again with 1920’s and 1930’s influenced furniture. Incorporating Art Deco furniture and decor is an instant way to elevate the look of your space. Go for animal print patterns, geometric shaped furniture, over the top glamorous touches and angular details.

Parquet Floors

Parquet floors bring us back to old world European style. Made of real wood and arranged in intricate patterns and geometric designs, the most popular being herringbone. The classic and traditional style of hardwood floor looks beautiful contrasting with modern furniture and updated fixtures, creating the perfect balance of old and new.

Luxury Linens

Startups like Brooklinen and Parachute Home are disrupting the linen industry making it easier and more affordable than ever to update your bedroom for spring with high quality bedding. You can choose from multiple fabrics, bundles and colors with warranties and even free trials. It's time to pamper yourself with a beautiful bed.

Pampas Grass

Romantic, bohemian and stylish, Pampas Grass adds instant texture to your space with little effort. The wispy grass is the perfect alternative to those who don’t love florals but still want to bring the outdoors in. The grass looks beautiful on its own in a simple vase or looks stunning on your mantle mixed with branches and berries.

Tone on Tone

The trend started in fashion but has quickly translated into design being the most creative yet daunting new way to design your space. Stick with one color and experiment with a different tone on every surface and material used. Opposite of what you may think, the trend actually is the opposite of maximalism and creates a serene and monochromatic look.
