Easiest Ways to Boost Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Whether you’re selling your home and want to impress potential buyers or you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner and want to impress your in-laws, you should remember one thing about your home – first impressions are everything. An unkempt, neglected home exterior can leave a lasting impression – and not a good one – no matter how pristine and beautiful the inside of your home is, which is why maintaining the exterior of your home is just as important as maintaining the interior. Fortunately, there are a number of easy, affordable ways to boost curb appeal of a home, and you can accomplish many quick projects in just a day or two. So carve out some time this weekend to tackle a few of these simple tasks that will instantly add curb appeal to your home.

Landscape

One of the very first things visitors will notice when they arrive at your home is the landscape, so take some time to care for it. Mow the lawn, trim the bushes, and pull the weeds. You don’t need a professional gardener to have a pretty front yard, because you can easily maintain your own lawn and garden yourself with the right tools and a bit of extra time.

Wash It Off

Dirt accumulates on outdoor surfaces – that’s just a fact of life. Because of this, the exterior of your house is likely coated with a layer of dirt and grime, which dulls the luster of your home. To banish the dirt and make your house shine like new, simply take your garden hose and spray down the stucco or siding. You can rent a power washer if you feel it’s necessary, but otherwise a regular hose will still result in a noticeable improvement.

Make the Front Door Pop

Small updates can make a big impact on the aesthetic of your home, and giving your front door a fresh coat of paint is one of the simplest, quickest ways to add curb appeal. In addition to painting your front door, other ways you can make your entryway pop is by placing potted plants next to the door, adding a welcome mat, and even hanging a wreath.

Update Light Fixtures

You may not think that light fixtures play a big role in your home’s curb appeal, but old, worn light fixtures can significantly detract from the aesthetic of a house’s exterior. If your exterior light fixtures are showing signs of aging and natural wear and tear, it may be time to replace them. Once you add new fixtures, you’ll be surprised to see how much a few bright, new lights can really elevate the look of your home.

Spruce Up the Windows

You probably already know that clean windows make a big difference in how your home looks, but don’t just stop there. To enhance the curb appeal of your house, take some time to give your windows some TLC, which includes adding an accent trim, repainting the shutters, or even adding a flower box. These touches are so small and simple, but they have a huge effect on the look and atmosphere of your home.
